Training for Security Guards Edmonton

What kind of equipment should a Security Guard invest in?

Every profession has a certain set of skills and tools, needed to carry out tasks and perform at the maximum level. The education you will receive with the Alberta Basic Safety Training will definitely deliver for you on your skill set. You also have to consider what you will need for tools in your new profession.
Luckily, the cost of acquiring most of these items is small compared to other types of professions.

Of course, some employers may provide some if not all of these items. Others may provide an allowance to purchase them yourself. And some employers may want some, all, or different items. But this will give you a starting point to consider what you will need on the job.

Boots
You may find that the job you land may require you to be on your feet most of the day. And this can lead to tired, aching legs, feet, and even lower back. You can counter this with good quality, supportive footwear. Depending on the location that you will be working, employers may require you to have steel toe work boots. This is an area that we recommend you don’t cut corners on. There are affordable quality work boots that will really help with the physical strain on your body. The cost you may pay for quality will, in the end, result in savings to you. Because less quality footwear will need to be replaced much quicker than a good quality set.

Security Belt
You will have equipment that you are going to have to have on you, ready for your safety and the safely of others. A security belt will make it able for you to reach for any tool you may need at a moments notice. You will not have to fumble around trying to find where you last laid something down. Security belts come with clips and slots that you can attach or store valuable tools and have them with you at all times. The nice point to mention here is that you can actually save money by buying a nylon belt rather than the more expensive leather versions. Yes, the leather can be attractive. But you will need to do much more routine maintenance to keep it in good condition. Nylon is also much lighter than leather. And priced much less than the leather versions.

Mini First Aid Kit
You may be the first visible person that someone on the location may approach for simple first aid items. Maybe someone might need a band-aid. It might be a good idea to have something small with these kind of supplies on hand, rather than having to go looking for someone else who may have one. There are small, compact first aid kits that you could have on your person while on the job. And they really are convenient to have on hand.

Flash Light
Regardless of whether you work in a brightly lit area or a dimly lit area, all security guards should have a sturdy flashlight with them. You never know when you will need to check out a dark corner or area. Having one is an important tool for both your safety and the safety of others around you. A sturdy, long metal flashlight can also be used for protection in a combat situation. If the need arises, you can use one as a striking device. It all comes down to maintaining safety for yourself and all those around you. Therefore, make sure you select one that is durable, has a bright light, and built solid.

Heated Vest
You may not consider this as something you will need to invest in. That will depend on the working environment you are in. If you work indoors mostly, this may not seem necessary. But if you work outdoors, you might change your mind. Evenings and overnight can get chilly working outdoors. If you have a heated vest, you can more comfortably focus on the task at hand. No one wants to be cold and have to wait until they can go inside to warm up.
